The History of Pashmina Scarves (from wiki)
Woven shawls in India have been worn as early as Indus Valley Civilization. The most famous example is this statue of priest or priest king who is draped in a shawl coming under the right arm and covering the left shoulder. His shawl is decorated with trefoil patterns.

Pashmina is a fine type of cashmere wool. The textiles made from it were first woven in Indian Administered Kashmir. The name comes from Persian pašmina, meaning “made from wool” and literally translates to “Soft Gold” in Kashmiri as stated. Pure Pashmina shawls are known to pass entirely through a wearable ring, with the diameter of about half an inch. In the West, Pashmina wool came to be known as ‘cashmere’ because of the Europeans first encountering this fiber in Kashmir.
The wool comes from four distinct breeds of the Cashmere goat; namely from the Changthangi or Kashmir Pashmina goat from the Changthang plateau in Kashmir region, the Malra from Kargil area in the Kashmir region, the Chegu from Himachal Pradesh in northern India and Pakistan, and Chyangara or the Nepalese Pashmina goat from Nepal. These shawls are hand spun, and woven in Kashmir and Nepal, and made from fine cashmere fiber.
Thai silk is produced from the cocoons of Thai silkworms and Thai weavers, mainly from the Khorat Plateau in the northeast region of Thailand. Khorat is the center of the silk industry in Thailand and a steady supplier of rose Thai silk for many generations.
